Originally from the Los Angeles suburbs, Ian received BAs in Anthropology and English from the University of Massachusetts Amherst before returning to southern California for his graduate work. He defended his PhD in Anthropology at UC San Diego in June 2018. As an archaeologist, his field research takes him to Jordan and Israel, where he works primarily on medieval copper and sugar production. While a graduate student, he worked for six years in the Making of the Modern World Program at UC San Diego, teaching critical reading and writing through a world history curriculum. When he isn’t in the field or teaching, he enjoys hanging out with his cats, listening to music, and thinking about broken pottery.
