Dr. Katie Turner is an artist-scholar who specializes in theatre. This year marks her 20th anniversary producing and studying theatre. She especially enjoys performing short-form comedic improv, as seen
on shows like Whose Line is it Anyway? Katie is very active in San Diego’s theatre scene and is proud to be a founding member of Oracle Performing Arts, a new independent theatre company specializing in site-specific work. You can find her and her company at this year’s Without Walls festival produced by the La Jolla Playhouse. Her artistic pursuits extend into poetry is well. You can regularly find her reading at local open mic events. Several of her works have been published in such publications as The San Diego Poetry Annual, BEAT-itude, and the online journal Last Exit. Offstage, Katie teaches theatre history and script analysis at San Diego State University and Mesa College. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Fort Lewis College with a BA in Theatre and Philosophy. She earned her MA degree in Theatre from California State University and her PhD in Theatre from the University of California in Irvine.
In her spare time, Katie enjoys taking advantage of all San Diego has to offer, including going to the beach, visiting Balboa Park, and walking around Lake Murray. She is an avid lover of fiction and is often reading multiple novels at a time. She is excited to share her love of reading with Hamilton’s students this summer!
