Jo grew up here in San Diego, with an interest in the intersection of Biology and Mathematics. They graduated from UCLA with a degree in Bioinformatics, where they worked in a research lab studying how behavior affects the spread of infectious disease (pre-Covid). After, they joined another lab, looking at how climate change affects thermal biology and habitat ranges of threatened species. Currently, Jo is enrolled in a Statistics Master’s program at SDSU. They have developed a passion for education, with 5 years of experience teaching and tutoring elementary through college-aged students. Beyond helping students succeed academically, they want to make learning fun, accessible, and less intimidating, while bridging any educational gaps caused by Covid. In their free time, they like fitness, organizing community crafting events, and spending time with friends, family, and their cat Sonia.
