About Us
I began my life as a teacher at UCLA, where I taught 18th and 19th Century British Literature and survey courses. In 1998 I began teaching the SAT and ACT, and in the last decade I’ve founded or co-founded three separate companies devoted to skills-based test-prep. I have personally taught more than 83 students who have earned perfect 2400 scores and thousands who have made vast improvements—some as much as 800 points. I have helped more than 100 students gain admission to Harvard and more than 100 to Stanford. More than a thousand of my students have gained admission to Berkeley and UCLA. And last year 63 Hamilton College Consulting students were admitted to Berkeley.
Here are a few of the things I’ve learned in the last 18 years:
- Attitude is Everything Work only with motivated students
- Skills rather than Tricks Teach concepts and skills that students will carry into college
- Everyone is Different Offer many different classes and tutoring options to suit different learning styles and schedules
- Learning Should Be Fun Laughter makes hard work not so hard
- Less is More Students do not need years of test-prep—personal motivation is a limited resource that should be treated with care
and respect - Colleges Care More about People than Scores There is no score (including a perfect score )that guarantees admission to top
colleges - College Prep Rather Than Test Prep Most students spend too much time on test-prep and too little time thinking about their
futures - More Than a Score There is more to getting into college than your score, and more to life than where you went to college
