Originally from Kansas, Shane moved to San Diego in 2009. He received a master’s degree from UCSD in linguistic anthropology, where he has taught for over a decade in the Department of Linguistics and a world history/writing program. His research interests include grammatical analysis of indigenous languages and ethnographic description of migration experiences in multilingual communities. He is an enthusiast of jazz and world music, and his hobbies include hearing live music, running, hiking, and playing the banjo. He is a true believer in the power of writing and critical engagement to imagine and create a better world.
