Matthew Irwin

Director of Writing

Matthew Irwin has a PhD in American Studies (University of New Mexico) and an MFA in Creative Writing (San Diego State University). He attended Miami University (Ohio) as an undergrad. Prior to earning the doctorate, Matthew was a journalist, newspaper editor, and writer for more than 15 years. He has since taught writing and interdisciplinary studies at colleges and universities such as the University of New Mexico, the University of Wyoming, San Diego State University, and Cal State San Marcos. He and his partner, a psychiatrist, recently relocated to San Diego with their two kids and rescue dog to start her practice and to teach the boys about the ocean. Matthew is a rock climber, snowboarder, and First Degree Black Belt in Shao Lin Kung Fu. His favorite genres of literature include Science-Fiction, Memoir, and Cultural History.
