Adam is deeply invested in teaching and learning and has spent almost all his adult life in higher education. A native San Diegan, he graduated from UCSD with a double major in writing and English and American literature. As an undergraduate, he received high departmental honors, graduated magna cum laude, and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Adam went on to earn a PhD in English and a Master of Science degree in Information Studies (formerly known as library science), both from the University of Texas at Austin. He has taught a wide range of literature and writing courses at UT Austin, the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Alabama, and National University in San Diego, where, since 2011, he has taught Advanced Composition, Information Literacy, and Cross-Cultural Communication. He has earned a reputation as an excellent teacher, as reflected in stellar teaching evaluations and the heartfelt thanks he has received from numerous former students. In 2016, Adam earned a CELTA certification to teach English as a second language, and he has taught ESL at International House San Diego. His other interests include hiking, healthy cooking, and live music.
